Man’s Sense of Masculinity

I've often asked myself, "Where does a man's sense of masculinity come from?"

Is it having all the stereotypical qualities most people associate with masculinity?

Does a man's sense of masculinity come from having big muscles and a lot of testosterone? Being dominant or powerful? Accumulating a lot of wealth? Bedding lots of women? ... having a large penis?

What?

I think these CAN be indicators of masculinity. They are effects, rather than the cause. And to pursue the effects without understanding the true cause is just a compensation.

However, it is the cause that is responsible for attracting the external indicators -- for this cause increases the body's testosterone naturally, which seems to the agent responsible for attracting the external signs of masculinity.

So what is this cause from where a man's sense of masculinity comes from?

Adequacy!

Convince a man he's inadequate, and he'll lose his entire sense of masculinity -- even if he is muscular, wealthy, or 'powerful'.

So the real question is, where does adequacy come from?

I think it comes from a knowing that whatever Life throws your way, you can deal with it -- or that you're capable of learning. A man's sense of masculinity comes from this knowingness.

This, of course, begs yet another question: how do you cultivate this knowingness?

Taking risks, failing, and then learning?

Facing conflict, losing, and then changing?

"Every adversity, every failure and every heartache carries with it the Seed of an equivalent or greater Benefit," wrote Napolean Hill. And I think that is the key to making contact with your adequacy.

It doesn't mean you'll never experience problems. They simply won't be barriers stopping you -- they'll be guideposts.

Start looking for the benefits in every problem you face... and your adequacy will find you!
